This describes what CaptionsThis, operated by Open Ground Atlas, collects when you use the service and why. There is no separate user database: your account is represented only by the records described below.

Audio and video you upload

Your file is sent directly from your browser to the transcription infrastructure that processes it, is transcribed and aligned, and is not stored afterward. It does not pass through or get retained on our own servers. If you convert a video file, that conversion to audio happens locally in your browser before anything is sent.

Transcripts and edits

The transcript, your edits, and your export settings are saved in your own browser's local storage so your session can be restored. We do not hold a copy of your transcript on our servers.

Account information

If you sign in with Google, we receive your name, email address, and profile image from Google to identify your account. If you sign in by email link, we receive only the email address you provide. Sessions are represented as signed tokens rather than server-side session records.

Usage and billing records

We keep a record of your credit balance, monthly free-tier usage, and purchase history, stored in Upstash Redis, so that transcription can be metered and refunded correctly. Payment is processed by Lemon Squeezy, which collects and stores your billing details directly; we receive confirmation of a purchase and the amount, not your card details.

Third parties

Transcription and translation are performed by Groq. Forced alignment runs on infrastructure operated for this service. Payment is processed by Lemon Squeezy. Sign-in email links are sent through Resend. Each of these processors receives only what it needs to perform its function.

Analytics

We record basic sign-up and usage events, such as when an account is created and its approximate country, to understand how the service is used. This is not shared with third parties for advertising.

Your choices

You can clear your saved transcript and edits at any time from within the editor; this is stored only in your browser. To request deletion of your account's usage and billing records, contact us at the address below.
