Subtitle format converters
Convert between the five subtitle formats this site exports. Every conversion runs in the page: the file is read and written on your own machine and never reaches a server.
The formats
- SRT
- Plain timed cues. Read by almost every player and editor, carries no styling.
- WebVTT
- The web's caption format, for an HTML5 track element. Adds cue positioning.
- SubViewer
- What YouTube Studio's caption uploader takes. No cue numbers, no markup.
- FCPXML
- Final Cut Pro's interchange format. Cues arrive as editable title clips, and DaVinci Resolve reads the same file as Text+ titles.
- Premiere marker XML
- FCP7 XML sequence markers, for Premiere Pro, which cannot read FCPXML. One marker per cue, searchable by text.
- plain text
- The transcript with the timing stripped out, as continuous prose.

Why FCPXML and Premiere XML are one-way
Both describe a timeline rather than a list of cues, so reading one back means deciding which of its clips were subtitles and which were titles that happened to contain text. That is a guess, and it would have to be made silently on every import, so it is not offered rather than offered unreliably.

Skip the conversion step. Transcribe the file and export any of these formats directly, with every word individually timed rather than every line.
